Chapter Nineteen: Cloudest Avenue
An Elf was walking past Cloudest Avenue corner One District, and into the Golden Sleigh Mechanic Subcorporation which is situated a few meters ahead. A known major subsidiary of the Christmas Corporation, the Elf was so excited to report for work during that day, being the formal start of the preparation for this year's gifting season.
All of this excitement cannot be contained, as magic sleighs receive their much needed maintenance from the technical personnel, to make sure that Santa Claus' travel around the world would be perfectly smooth, with no potential reported issues on Christmas Eve.
The Elf was named Ken Rotterdam, a mechanic certified by the Board of Certification's Magic Engineering Subsidiary Licensing. He is probably the youngest to attain such certification, and it shows in the quality of his work. Many Elves have tried to take the Board's comprehensive examination, but most of them fail completely in the first try.
But Ken was persistent in his efforts, and that is why he succeeded. His promotion also came early, as he was appointed the Chief Mechanical Technician of the Subcorporation, after barely two years in the job, which is alright since he deserves it.
As he was trying to gain entry into the Golden Sleigh Mechanic Subcorporation, an invisible enemy emerged from Cloudest Avenue. It is slowly creeping into the Subcorporation's courtyard where the golden sleighs are parked to be maintained. Not understanding the danger ahead, Ken opened the door to enter inside, but an unwelcome intruder also gained entry, and into the golden sleighs and the Magical Parts storage system.
Ken immediately proceeded to his station, to work on the General Plan of Magical Engineering. This is an important step in making sure that the golden sleighs are reliable and working perfectly. As he took his seat to continue the various drawings, the invisible enemy immediately ascended the stairs, and into the mechanical storage upstairs.
After a while, Ken was stopped from what he was doing when a loud explosion happened at the top floor as a cloud of fire emerged, while an emergency was declared by the Elf mechanics.
"Fire! Fire!"
Ken was quick to his feet, and quickly grabbed the nearest fire extinguisher to protect his workstation from the raging fire. As every Elf was doing his job of controlling the fire, the firemen's sirens were now audible. Within seconds, the fire trucks have arrived at the scene.
