Chapter Twenty One: Elihu, The North Pole

Just east to The Village, North Pole is where Elihu was located, a suburban settlement mostly made of Grid Energy Storage that are connected to the Suburban Furnace. The Grid is said to power the Magic of Christmas, but mostly it supplies the power needed to run the Toy Factory and the Psychometrician Store.

The Grid itself occupies most of the property, and the view of the system from the most top floor of the New Haven Plant is simply breathtaking, owing mainly to the design and arrangement of the Electrical Power Grid.

But the central piece of Elihu really is the Suburban Furnace, and the steady delivery of the Letters to Santa Claus is needed to fuel the Mechanical Turbines. It is important to keep the supply of electricity ample and reliable.

The said Letters arrive to Elihu after the Elves have delivered it to the Psychometrician Store to be processed, so most of the letters that get burned are the Letters from naughty children. Those valid Letters from the nice senders are certified by the Chief Storekeeper, sent to the Toy Factory  and then recycled as first class fuel of the Suburban Furnace.

The logistics of this intricate energy system actually starts with the Christmas Corporation's pronouncements related to the gifting season. Just as the season starts, so is the economic activity of the The North Pole, although preparation for the gifting cycle is a year-long process. The Christmas Corporation's duty is to ensure that these activities are unhampered, and that everything arrives every time when it is needed, and to what extent is needed.

The Canada Post is responsible for the delivery of the Letters to Santa Claus from which the Letters are actually addressed to, by children worldwide. For this purpose, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post has been charmed by the Little Drummer Boys to be able to see through the secret Mailbox of The North Pole, near the city of Montreal, so that the mail delivery becomes steady and fluid.

Within the Grid, an electric transformer is responsible for the Magic of Christmas, but no one knows where it is located. In this regard, due to lack of details, many assume that this story is just a myth, and the Magic comes from elsewhere. But the Grid itself, and the entirety of Elihu, is subject to tight security mainly because the energy supply needs to be the subject of focus for adequate reliability.

One theory that came up in Elfish superstition is that the Magic of Christmas emanates from a blank space, which they also call as black space. This space is assumed to be void, where everything "floats" and where the impetus, or energy for the Magic, is found to be the uninterrupted source of all the power. Many also assume that to conjure this Magic, a person's neurons play a crucial role.
